Textile Town the leading UK chair cover manufacturing company that maintains a database of banqueting chairs in usage in the UK has identified over 300 different combinations of height, width, depth, and seat back height in common usage in the UK. Across continental Eurpope and the USA the numbers are even greater.
Fortunately - by analysing this data it is possible to design chair covers that will fit a wide variety of chairs making life easier for hire companies and ensuring event organisers can get standard chair covers that fit well. In practice 95%
of chairs in common use can be fitted using a range of less than 10 chair covers. In fact - in most cases square back chair covers can be used on round back chairs with acceptable results reducing this number further.
Some firms have manufactured chair covers in the past using very stretchy type materials in a 'one size' fits all approach. For a variety of reasons these chair covers have proved highly unpopular and they have nowe largely been dropped by hire companies and experienced event organisers. See more information on chair cover materials using the links on the left.
By using a fabric with just a little bit of 'give' in both directions of the weave ( known as bi-polar weave) fabrics chair covers can be manufactured that still allow them to be easily fitted and removed when a little tight. Not to be confused with full stretchy type chair covers these create a natural look and feel while giving maximum flexibility.
Putting the chair cover on at an angle at the top of the back of the seat (i.e; placing the opening over one top corner first) makes it possible to get chair covers onto chairs that have seat backs that are wider at the top than the bottom.
Using sashes and bows on chair covers that are a bit too large for the chair is a great way of disguising any excess fabric which can be 'hidden' behind the organza sash or bow. This is especially the case with the 'full back' type of sash. Excess fabric can be folded over at the base off the chair back. This is an excellent technique where the seat height is too high and seat back is one of the measurement parameters of seats that is most likely to vary. For this reason many chair hire companies stock large chair covers with an extra high back to accomodate this type of chair in this way.
There are four key measurements you will normally need to supply your hire compnay with. Generally you will need to take this measurement using a tape measure and follow the curve of the back of the chair.
